Summary:
To plan, organize, evaluate and direct all services related to resident care.
This care must be in accordance with federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations.
Must supervise the day-to-day nursing activities performed by nurses and nursing assistants.
Such supervision must be in accordance with federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern Bethany Lutheran Home.
Qualifications:
RN or LPN license CPR Certified Must have excellent supervisory skills.
Must have no record of abuse.
Must have good physical and mental health Must have good knowledge and devotion to standards and principles of good nursing practices.
Good written and verbal skills.
Knowledge in OBRA and OSHA regulations.
Excellent computer skills.
Must be able to speak and communicate the English language in an understandable manner.
Essential Job Functions:
I.
Resident Care Functions Facilitate resident care improvements through communication with staff.
Assess admissions for appropriateness and determine the kind and amount of nursing care needed to meet the total needs of the residents.
Promote quality care through continuous evaluation of needs and direction of services concerning residents.
Promote the rehabilitation philosophy to ensure maximum independence.
Maintain and foster professional working relationships with residents, families, staff, consultants, governmental agencies and interested persons and/or groups in community Other duties as assigned.
II.
Supervisory Functions Assist in setting departmental goals on an annual basis.
Ensure adequate and appropriate staffing of nursing department at all times.
Assist and implement organizational structure of nursing department.
Assist, implement, interpret, and evaluate nursing care policies as related to the total physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs of the resident as necessary.
Enforce all written policies and procedures and make recommendations for change as appropriate to the Human Resources Manager or Administrator.
Assist Human Resources in the hiring, evaluation, disciplinary and termination processes.
Ensure proper documentation of all incidents.
Assist in creating and implementing nursing staff qualification standards.
Secure appropriate education and experience for all nursing staff.
Ensure OBRA and OSHA standards are met and complied with on an ongoing basis.
Assist in forecasting needs of departments on an annual basis and assist staff in maintaining budget throughout the year.
Notify Department Manager immediately of any necessary changes and make adjustments required or requested.
Assist in preparing departmental guides, manuals, memorandums for implementing established policies.
Delegate a responsible staff member to act on your behalf in your absence.
Review staff complaints or grievances with Department Manager and complete necessary documentation.
Forward documents to Human Resources or Administrator as appropriate within two working days of the incident.
Represent the home and nursing service in professional and community activities.
Provide leadership and guidance to various committees within the Nursing Department.
Must work weekend management schedule.
Other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to move intermittently throughout the day.
Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
Must be able to function independently, and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, staff, and support agencies.
Must meet the general health requirements of this facility which include a health screening, and drug screening.
Must be able to push, pull, move and/or lift a minimum of 50lbs to a minimum of 3ft.
Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents in case of an emergency.
